Cottage Garden

Design Brief: Simple & sophisticated design cottage-style garden, with low-maintenance planting to create a calming space - offering relief from the stresses of everyday life. Repurpose existing paving to reduce costs and include a compost area. Increase the overall accessibility of the garden.

This garden project was attached to a semi-detached Georgian house. The brief required a space for outside dining and easy access to the back gate.

The design included a variety of easy care shrubs around the seating areas to provide form and interest throughout the year. Evergreen shrubs offered structure, such as Choisya × dewitteana ‘White Dazzler’, Osmanthus devalvayi, Euonymus fortunei ‘Silver Queen’, and Pittosporum tenuifolium ‘Irene Paterson’. Seasonal interest was provided by a range of permanent plants, for example daffodils, snowdrops, magnolia, deutzia, Viburnum opulus 'Roseum', Hydrangea arborescens ‘Annabelle’, and evergreen jasmine to envelop the trellis in the smaller, and more intimate, seating area.
