Kitchen Garden
Design Brief: A family garden spread across various levels. This design needed to create various usable spaces - including a level lawn, pergola for shade, seating area for entertaining, and allotment with greenhouse.
A variety of easy care shrubs were suggested to enclose the seating areas. Evergreen shrubs provided lasting structure, such as Sarcococca hookeriana var. digyna, Salvia rosmarinus, Abelia grandiflora, and Ceanothus arboreus. Seasonal interest was provided by a range of shrubs and perennials, for example Hydrangea paniculata 'Limelight', Lavandula angustifolia ‘Hidcote’, Alchemilla mollis, Anemone ‘Honorine Jobert’, various hardy geraniums, selection of shrub roses, and climbers to envelop and soften the balcony, pergola and gazebo. Espalier fruit trees were trained along the existing brick walls, while various soft fruit bushes were added to maximise the productivity of the new allotment area.
